Funding Your AI Project in Southern France: Up to 4 Stackable Programs in 2026
An AI Audit for Your SME Can Cost You €0
Not pro bono. Not charity in disguise. Public money that almost nobody claims.
In 2026, an SME in Southern France (Région Sud) can stack up to 4 public funding programs to finance its AI project. The most striking one is still largely unknown.
"Mon assistant IA" — The Région Sud Program at Zero Cost
The Région Sud regional government offers a program called "Mon assistant IA" (My AI Assistant): AI consulting services fully covered at 100%. Diagnostic, action plan, first use case. Zero out-of-pocket cost for the SME.
24 companies have used it. Out of thousands of eligible ones.
This isn't a budget problem. It's an awareness problem.
The 3 Other Available Programs
Diag Data IA — Bpifrance
A structured 10-day diagnostic to assess the company's data and AI maturity. Total cost: €10,000, with an out-of-pocket cost of €7,500 after subsidy. It's the most structured entry point for an SME looking to frame its project before committing.
Research Tax Credit (CIR)
If the project involves genuine R&D — algorithm design, model training on proprietary data, methodological benchmarking — the CIR allows you to recover 30% of eligible expenses as a tax credit.
Innovation Tax Credit (CII)
For the pilot or prototype phase, the CII offers a 20% tax credit on innovation expenses (capped at €400,000). Less well-known than the CIR, but perfectly suited to a first AI deployment.
The Combined Effect: From €30,000 to €10,000
By stacking these programs strategically, a 40-employee SME can go from €30,000 down to roughly €10,000 out-of-pocket on a full AI project.
The key is strategic layering: each program covers a different phase of the project (diagnostic, design, development, pilot).
The Real Barrier: Access, Not Funding
These programs require accreditations, registrations, and paperwork. The business owner who doesn't know they exist pays full price. The one who knows how to stack the right levers cuts the bill by three.
The problem isn't a lack of support. It's that almost nobody comes looking for it.
